Vienna’s coolest flea market: the 48er Tandler

Shopping re-invented! Unwanted things are not just thrown away in Vienna. Items such as children’s books and tableware are sold instead of thrown away at the 48er Tandler flea market in Vienna’s 5th district.

Practical, useful and well-worth visiting

The 48er Tandler is considered to be Vienna’s coolest flea market. Why? Because the city – or more precisely the 48th district’s municipal authority that is responsible for waste management – collects unwanted items and sells them off cheaply.

Everyone benefits: those who want to get rid of unwanted items, and those who need to buy clothing, furniture and toys cheaply. By handing over high-quality, unwanted items at the waste disposal site or by buying items at the 48er Tandler market, you are supporting social projects in Vienna such as the refugee centre (Integrationshaus) and the TierQuarTier animal protection centre.

A different kind of concept store

You will immediately feel at home when you enter the 48er Tandler flea market in the 5th district of Vienna. It doesn’t smell musty, it is clean, tidy and well-kept. The goods sold here are displayed in a casual sort of way, similar to a concept store.

However, there is an added bonus: everything you find here still works – or will again. The employees at MA48 clean and repair the items before they are offered for sale. Approximately 300 tonnes of rubbish is reduced every year thanks to this innovative idea.

A huge selection is on offer

The pre-loved items store is 900 square metres and relatively large. You can find (virtually) anything you could imagine here: shoes, clothing, toys, tableware, electrical items, musical instruments, books, bicycles, sewing machines, furniture …

All devices are cleaned up until they sparkle and even come with guarantees. You can then just hang out on furniture that has been made from old pallets or on stools made from books.
