Arriving by car
Travelling from Vienna: Travelling on the A22 Donauufer motorway towards Prague/Brno/Sankt Pölten/B7/CZ – take the exit towards Krems/Strebersdorf/Prague/B3/St.Pölten – take exit 31-Stockerau Nord towards Horn – travel on the B4 (Horner Bundesstrasse) until you reach a roundabout – take the second exit off the roundabout (B4/Horner-Bundesstrasse/Wilhelm Miklas Pl.) – follow this route (you will travel through Irnfritz, Klein Ulrichschlag and Tröbings) – turn right at Aigen towards Lindau – follow this road towards Lindau – continue on through Lindau towards Raabs – when you arrive in Raabs turn right onto Bahnstrasse – turn right onto Hamerlingstrasse to the JUFA Hotel.
Travelling from Munich/Salzburg/Linz: Travelling on the A1 west motorway towards Vienna – take the Knoten Sankt Pölten exit and merge onto the S33 towards Krems/Sankt Pölten-Ost – follow this route until you reach the B37 (signposted B37/Krems) – take the B218/Langenloiser-Bundesstrasse via the Langenlois/Horn exit – take the third exit off the roundabout (signposted B34/Kamptal-Bundesstrasse) – turn right towards Fernitz and follow this route – turn right at Freischling towards Raan, Buttendorf – turn left on the B4/Horner-Bundesstrasse – continue on the B4 Horner Bundesstrasse – continue on towards Vienna
Travelling from Klagenfurt/Graz: Travelling on the A2 south motorway towards Vienna – continue on the A23/E59 towards Favoriten/Vienna – at the exit take the A22 towards B7/Prague – continue as described in the instructions as if travelling from Vienna

Visit Austria’s only mother-of-pearl wood turner’s workshop in neighbouring Felling and discover how mother-of-pearl buttons and jewellery are produced from shells and snail shells. This family business has been in operation for 100 years and you can gain an insight into this particular craft through a series of film presentations. You will also have an opportunity to take a look at the production process.
Llamas emanate a gentle and mysterious aura. They are woolly and trusting companions and make a hiking tour through the beautiful Thaya Valley a particularly special experience. Käsemacherwelt – Cheesemaker World
Experience close up how we produce our new varieties of soft cheeses and discover more about antipasti and our wide range of delicious specialities made from milk from sheep, goats and cows. The guided tour through Cheesemaker World begins with a short film. It then continues though the production area and there is then an opportunity to taste these fine delicacies. A petting zoo with goats, sheep and rabbits entertains our younger guests.
Raabs an der Thaya Castle is one of the oldest stone castles that has ever been built in Austria. The name originates from a German lord from the Middle Ages who was called “Ragoz”. A trip to Raabs Castle is a fantastic opportunity to embark on an adventure back in time with your family and to really delve into the mysteries of the past.
Karlstein Clock Museum
Clocks are repaired and planetaria, table clocks and watches are manufactured by hand in this “living workshop”. You can see 200 exhibits, perpetual calendars, tools and machines. Children who are learning to tell the time are just as welcome at the Karlstein Clock Museum as older visitors who are interested in the technology behind clock making.
Castle Kollmitz Ruins
In the north of Waldviertel a ruin stands proudly on a steep cliff and dominates the surrounding landscape. Castle Kollmitz was occupied by a number of noble families until it was destroyed by fire in 1703. It now appears as if it has fused together with the rocks and has become a popular destination for explorers and families. Call in advance to arrange a guided tour and immerse yourself more deeply in the history of the ruins of Castle Kollmitz.

Kamp-Thaya-March Cycle Route
The 445 kilometre long Kamp-Thaya-March cycle route (KTM) is deemed to be one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Austria. This popular route in the north eastern corner of Lower Austria follows three rivers, the Kamp, the Thaya and the March. The section running through the Waldviertel is probably the most beautiful part of the route. If would like to continue exploring the Waldviertel area, you can leave the KTM cycle route at Altenberg and switch over to the Kloster cycle route, which is a 250km long circuit around the Waldviertel.
