Studio of the stonemasons
It is one of the oldest professions of mankind. Since ancient times, stonemasons have preserved the knowledge of the artful processing of stone and the construction of stone buildings. Also in Kronach, where they have been working on the construction of a fortress since the 16th century. Which techniques did the stonemasons use and what is a stonemason’s mark? Learn more and design your own stonemason’s mark.
Kitchen, scent and secrecy
The tour is mainly aimed at children in the 1st to 6th grade (6-12 years) and is dedicated to the topics of nutrition and hygiene in general, but also to life on the fortress in particular. The tour takes your group to areas of the fortress that are otherwise not accessible to the public. The children also explore the underworld of the fortress.
Lucas Cranach workshop: Prince Painter
The court painter Lucas Cranach had to make several of his portraits. In the Franconian Gallery, paintings of the two electors and brothers, Frederick the Wise and John the Steadfast, are first examined under the magnifying glass. In the workshop, the participants try their hand at portraits of our “modern princes” – either Chancellor or Prince Painter Cranach – just like the journeymen in the master’s workshop with stencil and division of labour.
Here you will find an overview of school educational programmes in Kronach. Seminar and workshop rooms, a medieval castle complex, studio rooms, playground and a campfire site are available for you in addition to numerous outdoor activities.
